Here's the problem:

You've got two fractions... and you need to know which one is bigger.

How do you do it?

Well, sometimes it's easy and you can tell just by looking... and sometimes you need to do some number crunching.

Let's look at the easy ways:
(The number crunching is in the next lesson.)

Which is greater: 1/4 or 1/10 ?

Remember that the denominator tells us how many pieces something (like a pizza) is cut into.

So... You're reeeeeeally hungry...

You can have 1 piece of one of these pizzas:

   or   

4 pieces

10 pieces

Which do you want?

1/4 of a pizza is WAY bigger than 1/10 of a pizza!

So 1/4 is greater than 1/10
